First cat spey

First cat spey, also my first recovery surgery! Finally a surgery where a patient doesn't get put to sleep after!
The whole thing went really well, without any surgical complications. Gotta say, I was quite stressed throughout the surgery since our group was supervised by the head of surgery department, and he kept asking us questions - which I should be thankful i suppose, since it made the surgery quite interactive while encouraging us to recall important bits of must-knows

Some points I took home from this session:
1. Abdominal layer(external rectus sheath) can be closed using simple continuous sutures (all these while i thought only simple interrupted was to be used), making sure to tie more knots at both ends for extra security.

2. Ketamine and buprenorphine(analgesia) can be sprayed directly into a cat's mouth for it to work. So next time i get a cranky, hissing cat that needs to be sedated, draw up some ketamine and aim! ^^

3. To find the uterus, look undernath the bladder. The simplest thing to remember yet i keep forgetting pft!

4. Ovaries resected but the uterus can't be fully exteriorize. So, extend the skin incision?? Well, it's not needed. Just remove part of the uterus or simply remove both horns. According to Dr.Bruce, the risk of pyometra (stump in this case) is very low due to the medication we are using now. And he thinks that more vets will choose to perform partial oviariohysterectomy (removing ovaries and horns but not uterus) compared to total ovariohysterectomy

A hurdle

Things have not been going well, not at all.

Conflicts, confrontations and more complications…

And yes, it all started with me.

I made the wrong decision, following through with worse actions.

Now that everything is unravelling, I can't help but feel so vulnerable.

Judgements and whispers behind my back, I can take it all.

What will I be left with after all these happenings?

I don't know.

I really don't.

God I need you, i really do.

Grant me strength please, to get through this mess.

I know scars and bruises are inevitable, but getting through this alive is all I'm aiming for.

I know beyond this valley, there is a peak that I can surely reach.

For 'Failure' is not falling down, but 'Remaining on the spot where one fell'.

Pregnancy diagnosis

Went through my first cattle pregnancy diagnosis prac exam this morn and surprisingly did pretty well! A shocker indeed! Have always considered my PD skills to be lacking, rectal palpation is just not something I can master in a short period of time, what more with the lack of opprtunity to practice.
Think I'm getting pretty good at diagnosing less than 10weeks old pregnancie since out of the 8 i did, 5 was in that range haha!
One thing i took home from this exam was to trust my gut! and trust what you feel! It's like I felt the membrane slip on the first  time but can't seem to get a feel of that again and it turned out I was right from the start! Certainly the more one incubates inside the cow, the more one will second guess their decision. So, best to go in, feel for signs of pregnancy and get out~ Easier said that done to be honest! Since sometimes i spend the first couple of minutes digging out shit from their rectum and some cows just wouldn't stop contracting and there goes my arm's sensation.
Was practically covered in shit after the whole thing since some cows basically shoot their poop out right onto me, and no.56 i'll always remember you as the one that flicked your poop covered tail over my neck and face pft!
Anyways, glad that one exam is over and hopefully i wouldn't need to repeat it!

update : YAY I PASSED ^^

Commercial poultry farming

Had a series of lectures on commercial poultry farming today and I was delightedly hit with some new info which set some light bulbs on. Let's get to the fun facts shall we?

  • Now, when one reads 'free range' - Many (inlcuding myself!) will automatically think of --> oh the chickens are allowed to roam freely, more freedom, better welfare.
    • What i didn't know : Chooks are essentially kept in enclosed barns until 28days old (since prior to that they are incapable of regulating body temperature efficiently due to the lack of feathers), then are provided with outdoor access after hitting that 4weeks old point.
    • The catch: chickens are usually send off to slaughter around 30days+ mark. Which means although being labelled as 'free range', in reality they still spends most of their life in enclosed barns, only getting a couple of days of 'freedom'. And we consumers pays more for free-range chicken. Kudos for marketing ploy!
    • Oh, sometimes freedom comes with a price too? If they somehow contract any disease in that final week of life, no medications can be used due to residue issues. Being let outdoor = unregulated environment, exposure to wild birds carrying diseases and parasites. Not so good now it seems...
  • The craze for organic chickens. No chemicals = good?
    • to be certified organic- producers are required to not use any vaccination, prophylactic antibiotics and medication on farm. For consumers, it's may seem excellent - well, since au natural is the best for us right?
    • But what about the animal? No vaccination for endemic diseases and ubiquitous bacteria, no treatment even when it's sick - certainly a dent in animal welfare from my perspective.
  • Let's throw in a trivia! How many poultry vets are there in Australia?
Poultry lectures in the morning, then spending my afternoon touring a commercial broiler farm. Tigh biosecurity, adhering to strict welfare standards, hygienic and tighly regulated environment - was certainly a pleasant surprise especially with the lack of 'smell' despite being fully enclosed.
However, one thing that bothered me was certainly the fact that some chickens were unable to stand for long periods, merely lying on their breast for most of the time due to rapid muscle growth compared to bone growth, hence sore legs. After intense selection for growth, all of the broilers have huge breast meats, perhaps too huge and too heavy for some to physically bear. The only consoling thought was the fact that they are meant to be send off to slaughter in a couple of hours time, preventing any injuries stemming from that issue.

Gotta admit, chicken meat is certainly my go-to-purchase most of the time. This will certainly not change down the tract. Was definitely a good experience doing a walk through, looking at the facilities, understanding the rearing process and all.
Now, i would love to visit a poultry slaughtering facility!
(Before i forget, there's a total of 12 poultry vets in the whole of Australia ^^)

the next big thing

whew, finally trials is officially over

wait!!
before i automatic click into REJOICE mood,
it suddenly dawned upon me that the-oh-so-important-finals is merely 34 days away!!!
WTH?!

seems like exam is a confirmed part and parcel of a typical student's life
so, no point whining everytime one is around the corner right??

Although I am always clearly aware that revision needs to be done early, still, i often find myself struggling to finish revising before the exam commence ~
even though the thought of 'i'll definitely start studying today!!' is always ringing in my head,
but somehow, 'tommorow la' will creeps in and win....=.=

today's exam was seriously my worst exam, ever!
not referring to the paper though but rather my state of health

before entering the hall, i was perfectly normal albeit feeling somewhat tired
but, the moment i entered the hall, my nose just somehow became totally blocked AND started raining mucus!!! believe me, ya do not want me to go into details coz its totally *gross*

so, i spent the first one and a half hour of the test with utter discomfort, not just having to resort to breathing through my mouth, but also frantically wiping those mucus off every minute.....
to make my day worse, just when i can finally breath through my nose (hallelujah!), came the migrane attack......
therefore, i ended up spending the remaining time trying to organise my answer so that it actually make sense~(everything was jumbled up!!)

Did i screwed my paper???
Pleeease not!!!

Errghh, this ends the rant of the day~

just to make sure this blog ain't dying

So, i'm officially 19 starting today.
What better reason to post an update on this virtually dying blog??
oh, this sounds really pathetic..

Do i sound emo?? seems to be....
it's the sort of my-big-day-today, and yet, my spirit is just too heavy to be lifted

did something bad happened?? nah~
this situation is more like the result of cumulative stress which can't be disposed off right now at least

previously, it was all about assignments
currently, it is all about exams
unending exams to be more precise
week after week, exams after exams, and yet there is still more to go!!!

i'm frustrated!!!

but don't worry, i'm still managing myself pretty good here, minus my injured leg of course.
haih, feel like a total idiot by injuring myself just by skipping rope.
the consequences?? limping (its getting better already) and a whole month of abstinence from strenuous activities.
in other words, any form of exercise is a no-no. But i foresee myself breaking the rule, perhaps tomorrow??

anyway, thanks for those whom remembered my birthday and took the effort to wish me, sing for me, and prepared presents and cake to celebrate this-should-be-joyous occasion.
Well, i may not be over the moon, but i'm happy nevertheless

ending this with a smiley =), just to show that i'm definitely OKAY

on cloud nine.....i wanna remain there!!

Ever thought that you did badly in the exams but passed with flying colours in the end??

It totally happened to me, for the first time that is

Well, i wouldn't say that sem 2 final was superb hard, but yea, it was challenging nevertheless

i believe that all students had to race against the time just to complete those papers

Today, all ausmatians were supposed to register themselves in college. At the same time, it was also parents-lectures day. The time where some parents are called up to meet wit the lectures.

Anyway, before the event started, some of us (including me) kinda took the opportunity to peak at our results. since all of us are still clueless on how we fared

i was instantly stunted when i saw mine!!

iT was like those OMG-something-must-be-wrong situation!!!

it never ever occurred to me that i would be able to obtain an average of like 91!!!
To top that, i did amazingly well for my maths, something that wasn't expected at all!!

To be honest, i was totally prepared for the worst, especially for maths, since there wasn't enough time to recheck my paper (i'm a pro at silly mistakes btw). i even left some questions unanswered.
So, to score a 94 was totally out of the topic!!!

once i saw my result, the first thing i did was to recheck, double check even triple check the student ID on the result list. well, perhaps my eyes were playing some dumb trick on me right?!

okay, i'm still feeling superb surreal now. i've to admit that i never ever expected such good result. Though i did study (who didn't anyway?!), but still, maybe i doesn't deserve such result....

well, it like a usual thing right to be able to predict ones result right after finishing a paper.

usually there will be either a feeling of overwhelming joy (man, i did really well!!), dissapointment & perhaps anger( shit!!!totally screw the paper. please let me pass.....), or relieve (though i did not perform up to expectations, but heck, at last it's over!!!)

i would say that i'm in the 'relieve' category.....

ahhhhh.......i'm sooooo confused right now.
just hope that what i saw was true*crossing fingers*

an unbelieving good start for the upcoming semester perhaps??

beggining and the end

i'm now officially back at Shah Alam for my 3rd and also last semester of the AUsMAT course =P

I'm superb exhauseted!!! imagine walking up and down to my room on the fifth floor for about 10 times carrying stupid heavy boxes!!! gosh, my legs were practically wobbling when i did the last transfer!!!

crap, if only i knew that we're using the same room as last sem, i would never ever have cleared the whole room!!!

thank God for mum and dad which were here to help me!!

hmmm, this sem is supposed to be less hectic compared to the previous,
since well, all the major assignments are practically done, with only the presentation stage pending

and, since there'll be no more lessons for IELTS, i'm praying that we'll have more days in which lessons would end at 1pm rather than 4pm...(pleaaaase let this come true)

ah well, i'm really supposed to stay focused and work the extra mile in this last stage of preparation before the final SACE exam.
This is it!!!
the point in my life where the future actually lies in my own hands.
to be able to fly or the other way round
it's all about the RESULTS!!

not forgetting some of my friends whom will be enrolling in university soon, best of luck to you guys!! enjoy life there, well *ahem*, of course not forgetting to study hard as well~~

to the future doctors, pharmacist, dentist, accountants and forensic scientist
Roselind, Shoba, Rachel, Lydia, Stephanie, Jien May, Zhi Hui

CHEERS~~!!

latest craze~~~

oh man, i'm like totally drooling over this guy~~~yeah!!

was initially having second thoughts about doing this post, since well, after this i've to admit that i'm going crazy on another pop idol~~~

oh well, who cares anyway~~

it all began with this drama....(call me dramaQueen!!!)

YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL

the cast

lead actor : Jang Geun Seok as Hwang Tae Kyung
(another Korean hottie i must admit =P)

the oh so versatile Lee Hong Ki as Jeremy

A.N.J.E.L.L ( band in the drama)
featuring(from left): Jang Geun Seuk, Park SHin Myin, Jung Hong Hwa and Lee Hong Ki

Yea, since my main motive for this post is to introduce my latest 'crush',
so for those interested in this drama, there's always google available yea.

anyway, those whom happens to stumble this post,

GO WATCH THIS DRAMA!!!!!

definitely one of my favorite show!!! and oh, do remember to keep an eye on Lee HOng Ki!!!

for a new actor, he certainly did a great job playing the character Jeremy. He was always the one that made me laugh my heads of, and of course, shedding some tears in one particular scene.

And, and, and,
Lee Hong Ki is definitely the first on my list that actually suits GOLD coloured hair. Not many entertainers out there fits this particular blond style

of course, many tried, but only a handful managed to make this type of look 'work' for them

Seriously, i think this guys will suit any hairstyle thrown on him

Don't believe me??

Let the pictures do the talking then~~~

(All pictures are from the drama-you're beautiful)

now, don't ya agree with me??

thanks to him, i'm now paying more interest towards F.T. Island, the band in which he is the lead vocalist.
Although this is definitely not a new band, i've never really bothered about them till now. *in shame*

Well, do remember Dawn goin gaga over them during Form 5 (are you still into them anyway Dawn??haha)

But i was to occupied by Fahrenheit then( oh wu chun...sadly, your time has passed...)to notice them.

Well, i'm proud to say that F.T.Island do produce many quality music compared to the majority boy bands out there. Since they play their own music and the lead vocalist do sing very well indeed. Not to mention their overall good looks!!!!

Do check them out!!

Drama marathon??

I've been totally unproductive for the 1st week of my much anticipated holidays, TOTALLY

well, i practically managed to finish 3 dramas in like 4 days?! man!!
so these are my 'success', LOL
First on the list :Atashinchi no Danshi

one big happy family??

some shots from ep1

this is so not your typical falling-in-and-out-of-love type drama. Silly but funny, with some mystery and touching moments thrown in as well. Man, the interactions between the characters are so well choreograph!! Totally enjoyed it from the start till the end.

Of course, there's a tiny bit of romance near the ending, but that isn't the major plot la. Ha, seems like no drama can be complete without these 'love' thingy eh?? XP

Moreover, the presence of Horita Maki is like a total plus point here. Yup, i'm a fan of her. Well, she kinda posses this natural aura in acting i guess.

Second place : Personal taste

the cast

recognise her?? too bad she's only in for a guest appearance...

what a lovely couple~~

okay, i watched this show mainly because of Lee Min Ho.
Please, he's damn cute whey. He looked so much better(with short hair) compared to that in BOF!!! not to say that he's not cute in BOF la, but somehow i think that Ji Hoon over shown him there..haha
though there's some negative response which claim the Soh Ye Jin(the main female cast) is too old to be paired with Min Ho, but i totally disagree.
She might be older but her acting skills really managed to brighten up the whole show!!! I was practically speechless when i saw the product of 'fashion sense' by her...
Watch it for yourself if you don't believe!!

Third show: Bloody Monday 2

Honestly, i was so hooked that it was hard to take my eyes off for just a second, coz it seems like i would miss importants details if i did. A very spectacular drama packed with live actions and suspense. The plot was so unpredictable that one could not predict the suspect till the very end. A definitily must watch people!!! Season 1 was equally good too!!

I'm so gonna satisfy my crave for dramas through out the holidays!!!
and i'm totally ruining my body's metabolism by doing so coz i can't sleep until i finish one whole drama.

imagine sleeping at 5 in the morning only to wake up at 5 in the evening the next day!
Yeah, that's me babe!!!

5 days.....

after major relaxation theraphy for 2 whole days, i'm off to BTN tomorrow.

heard about some pleasant and 'not so pleasant' stuff concerning this program

nevertheless, i'm not supposed to jump into conclusion before experiencing it myself right??

so, off i go!!!

p/s i'll be strong =p

4 months

yea, that's the period of time i totally abandoned my blog,
seems that it's unfit to name myself a blogger anymore eh? x.x

4 months, a long time you say?
so.not.true
and i'm speaking from experience

feel like it was just yesterday that i'm whining about returning to Shah Alam for semester 2, and now, it's OVER!!

feel like it was just yesterday that i'm all stressed up due to the load of assignments practically thrown at me at an instant, and now, i'm almost done (yea not done, but almost, and i'm grateful =P)

feel like it was just yesterday that i'm burying myself with books for thE upcoming finals, and now, the last paper juat ended!!

feel like....oh, i can just go on and on and on!!

indeed, i've to fully agree that SEM 2 ain't easy. to juggle between assignments, presentations, quizes, test, apart from maintaining 'up to level' results.
However, just reminising those 'hardships' made me realise that i've grown,
into a person that manages time better,
into a person that is able to perform under stressful conditions ,
into a person that is able to fully participate and work with others as a team....

people grow with experience, don't they?!

ahem, it'll be impossible for me to update every detail about my life here in the past 4 months,
but i'm glad to say that i've lived
i've complained,
i've cried
i've laugh my head off
i've spent sleepless nights
i've been bored to death
i've enjoyed(man, can't believe i'm saying this!!)
and i'm gratefull and contented.

shall try to post some pictures, if i'm immune to the lazy bug (>.<)

Things are Piling UP UP UP~~

First of all, a big big S-O-R-R-Y for the immense lack of updates.

I've been practically on-lining everyday and yet, somehow there's this strong sense of reluctance to blog!! What the heck!

Anyway, i've eventually manage to drag my fingers here, so so so
'An Update at Last'!!

7 weeks of holidays, 7 major weeks of holidays, which is a total of 49 days!!!
seems to just passed in a blink of an eye~
ahhh, time really flies when one is going through upmost enjoyment eh?!~cruel!!

And, i'm back at Shah Alam(physically true, but i think most of my spirit is still in Ipoh...LOL), stepping into my second week of 'school' term...

Just after no more than 9 school days, we are already being BOMBARDED with loads and loads of projects and assignments!!! Practically every single thing needs to be done from scratch. From selecting an appropriate topic, to getting teacher's approval, to frantically searching for usefull info and sources....whew, there's hardly any time for a break! Some requires a planned trip, some involve surveys, and the english assignment is almost a research paper, some sort of investigation...

Looking at the positive side, most of these major projects are due a few months later, which implies that we'll have ample time(i certainly hope so!!) to complete them....

Ahhhh.....

Gearing myself for the most stressful and busiest semester(according to seniors~~in which i totally support) ever~~~

God, please grant me immense wisdom and strength through this tough period. Amen

Back at last, for 6 WEEKS!!!!

WOOHOO~~~~
back at home at last!!!!yipee~~~

this marks the beginning of my 6 weeks semester break~~~

gonna bake a huge batch of cream cheese and chocolate tarts with my sis tomorrow(she's skipping school~~). Hope the end product is up to expectations.

gosh, i seriously feel so energized to do some serious baking man!!! hah, was actually surfing the web for simple recipes to try out, Ranging from tarts, muffins, cookies, breads....etc.

Yeap, i'm officially on BAKING MODE!!! hehe.....

ohoh, not forgetting SPM~~~gosh, i'm actually going for SPM again....
yea, yea, some people here willingly registered for the mandarin subject early this year since she didn't want all those Mandarin tuition fees and effort to be wasted just like that....
so, apart from Baking, the most important thing should be INTENSE REVISION on Mandarin language~~~

SPM and FRESH OVEN BAKES, here i come!!!!!

Thursday, November 12, 2009

finals unofficially over~~~

okay, you guys must be asking why the word 'unofficially' rite??

since BIO paper today marks the end of 'exam which involves subjects that need to be studied', i personally declare that exam is OVER!!!!!Though in reality, there's one more paper to go on Monday---IELTS

okay, i'm not saying that English does not need preparation here. But since this particular IELTS test is only a college based assessment, which does not really affect my overall gred since it's not the real IELTS exam....so, it's human nature to put it on the not-so-important list right?? Furthermore, i'm only having the listening and reading component which can't really be prepared.....
well, hah, i should just skip the explanation part right from the start~~LOL

Anyway, TIME FLIES!!!!REALLY! yea, i know i've mentioned this many times, but i'm always getting this feeling~~~just before this, all of us were still studying our butts off for the final exam, and now it's kinda over!! And semester break is already around the corner!!! Woohoo~~~that's the best news man!!!

Sunday, October 25, 2009

preparing for finals

whoosh~~~

all those days of rushing and pushing for assignments datelines, preparing for presentations are all over for this semester
so now, it's time to concentrate for the ultimate FINALS!!!

speaking of that, my finals schedule is super 'lose'
as in, there is exam today then followed by a rest day, that kind of style
well, some might smile contentedly since we'll have ample time for serious last-minute study..
however, this style also means exam period is for the whole 2 weeks for just 6subjects~~~
shorter but packed or longer but less tensed??
ummmm.....

Sunday, October 4, 2009

short update

is currently on a healthy diet once again!!!

no more living on bread and biscuit entirely ever since bringing in a rice cooker from ipoh ~~

whipping up some really easy and surprisingly delicious home-cooked meals whenever time is on my side ^_^

from various flavours of porridge( this is a super flexible dish i tell you, almost anything can be added in!!!) to soups, to stir-fry vegetables and simple omelets~~~
guess that i'm eventually gonna cook up a storm here?! LOL....

anyway, cooking is not anywhere near troublesome as many assumed it to be. With a little effort, a simple yet tantalizing dish can be produced in no time!!! yea, looks like i'm kinda encouraging people to start cooking eh??

so, apart from issues in the kitchen, life is still loaded with enormous amounts of assignments, test, quizzes, pop quiz(oh, i hate that one the most!!). However, everything is going on smoothly(hope that it'll continue this way shall we??), and i'm managing life here pretty well.

oh, not forgetting to mention that i bump into JAMIE in City Harvest yesterday. It was really enjoyable to be able to see someone you know from high school after such a long time!!! Will be seeing much of her i hope since i'll be attending CH constantly when i'm in Shah Alam. Really enjoyed the lively worship and powerful sermons there!!! Nothing beats experiencing God's presence from my heart and knowing that he's always by my side, supporting and carrying me whenever i fall~~~

God is good, All the time!!!

Monday, September 14, 2009

Hectic~~~

It's been all about quizes, tests and assignments for the past 2 weeks...

bURRYING MYSELF IN BOOKS AND DUGGING MY WAY OUT AGAIN...lol

hah, anyway

glad that it's all over!!! For now at least...

Guess what??

Hari Raya HOLIDAYS are approaching!!!
counting down~~~

Have been buying dinner from the nearby Ramadhan Bazaar these few days
seriously, i'm really impressed at the amount and varieties of food there
gosh, especially the mouth-watering malays kuih!!!!

Ah~~~~indeed, the temptation of food is hard to resists!!!!

Watch your waistline gurl!!
